昔、語学学校から歩いて帰ってきたとき、毎日通っていた一つがサン・ドニ門。立派な門の大きさにも圧倒されますが、周りのインド・アフリカのお店の多さとスパイシーな香りがセットで記憶に残るような所です。

サンドニ門の歴史は古く、現在の門は１６７２年着工。さらにその前にも門があり、パリ玄関口の一つで城壁の要塞として４つの塔付きでした。1356年から1383年の間に建てられた城壁の一部ということでした。ちなみに１３５０年代というと日本は室町時代です。
さて、このサンドニ界隈はインドカレーレストランが多く、あちこちからいい匂いがしてきます。
